It happens every year. You want to decorate your windows for the holidays but the cheese factor can get out of control pretty quickly. Holiday character clings are adorable on elementary school classroom windows but can bring down the wow factor of your windows. We’ve gathered some great alternatives that will add enviable style to your home and be sure to compliment your existing window treatments. The best part? None of these fabulous ideas will break the bank!
Warm Windows with a Holiday Wreath
Try hanging a wreath or arrangements with fabric loops in the center of your large windows indoors instead of outside. This will keep the wreath(s) from falling victim to the elements and allow them to be used year after year. Your décor will be doing double duty, taking care of interior and exterior appeal with this option as well. You can either purchase one ready-made or make one yourself that compliments the colors of your draperies or shutters. Use solid ornamental or gauzy fabric to hang from the wall above the window. Think of the look of an over the door wreath hook, but for your window.
Forget the Canned Snow, Add Hanging Snowflakes to your Windows Instead
Frosty windows can be a fun effect, but create a mess and, if not done right, look downright tacky. An adorable alternative is large snowflakes hung with fishing wire on the interior to create the image of a frosty scene without have to scrape off flakes of snow or sticky glue at the end of the season. Put your personal touch on your window décor with different sizes, colors and sparkle. You can even create a lovely scene with plastic snowflakes found at a discount store or paper ornaments. If you prefer a more sophisticated interior appearance use crystal, mirrored or even Christmas ornaments to really add some holiday feel to your windows.
Think Window Boxes to Share Holiday Joy
For smaller or elevated windows it can be a little more difficult to keep them from getting too cluttered. Window boxes are usually reserved for spring plants or herb gardens, but think about adding a window box with seasonal décor that can easily swapped and stored as Thanksgiving passes and Christmas arrives.
