Sliding glass doors can pose a design challenge, but there are a lot of great ways to cover them without sacrificing the overall look of your home. In this article, we’ll cover the best ways to cover your sliding glass doors. All of these products are available from Blind Faith. For more information, please call us at 512-373-3630. We look forward to working with you to find the best solution for your windows.
Vertical Shadings
Vertical Shadings are one of Blind Faith’s favorite products for sliding glass doors due to their sleek, uniform appearance and the ability to pair them with our horizontal shadings. This product combines the softness of draperies with the function and light control of blinds. Due to the vane and fabric construction, this product has a more uniform and tailored appearance than draperies and does not require the homeowner to “dress” the pleats when using frequently. Light-dimming and translucent fabrics complement the horizontal window shadings shown in the window on the left. Both the horizontal and vertical window shadings continue to provide UV protection while the shades are tilted open, as well as privacy during the day. Moving wands are available with one way stack vertical shadings which eliminates cords and provides the ultimate in child safety. With widths up to 192” wide and lengths up to 120” long, vertical shadings are a great solution for large sliding glass doors and windows.
Panel Tracks
Panel Tracks are our second favorite way to cover sliding glass doors for a variety of reasons. Firstly, we can design the panel track to stack on the outside of your sliding glass door which allows you to have all of the natural light coming in. Secondly, they are so smooth to operate! Smooth operation is important when there are children or elderly people in the home who may have difficulty grabbing chains and the wand eliminates cords that may be harmful with small children in the home. Lastly, the panel tracks can be made with any roller shade (see window on the left) or woven wood fabrics which means that all of the window coverings in the room can coordinate. Panel tracks can be made up to 261” wide and 144” tall making them a fantastic solution for huge windows and doors.
Honeycomb Shades
The vertical application of honeycomb shades is a great way to cover sliding glass doors or even create room dividers. One of the best features of this product is the small stack of fabric when the shades are open. The stack is 6 ½” regardless of the width of the shade which makes it a perfect solution when there is very little wall on the sides of the doors. As with the other featured products, the honeycomb vertical application can match up with the rectangular windows. We have over 200 fabrics and colors to choose from! The distinctive cellular construction helps insulate homes and reduces electric bills as well as helps with sound absorption. There are a variety of options that can be applied to the rectangular honeycombs including top down bottom up, cordless and motorization. With sizes up to 168” wide and 120” long, this is a great choice for standard or slightly oversized windows and doors.
2” Hybrid Pleated Shades
The 2” Hybrid Pleated Shade is our newest sliding glass door solution! This innovative design combines the styles of honeycomb and roman shades with a bold 2” pleat. Just like the vertical honeycomb, the vertical 2” Hybrid Pleated shades have a 6 ½” stack which makes them ideal for sliding glass doors with limited sheetrock around the opening. This new product is available in 18 semi-opaque fabrics and 9 room darkening fabrics. With sizes up to 120” x 120”, most sliding glass doors can be covered. Pair them with the rectangular 2” pleated shades for a contemporary look.
Draperies are a great solution for sliding glass doors. The best thing about draperies is the endless possibilities of fabrics and options. Blind Faith has thousands of fabrics to browse through in our showroom or we’ll bring a smaller selection to you. You can coordinate them with a roman shade in the same fabric as seen here. One thing to keep in mind when it comes to draperies is that there will be a larger stack of fabric to one side or the other (or both if you choose). So, draperies are not always an option if there is not a lot of wall next to the slider. Pair the draperies with a high quality traverse rod or this sleek square Kravet rod to really bring out your own style. The possibilities are truly endless with this fabulous option!
